Sandhurst Youth - Community and Church Youth Worker
If you want a pioneering role embracing both statutory and church youth work, and have the creativity, drive and passion to make it happen, then come and join us!
‘Sandhurst Youth’ is an exciting new partnership between St Michael’s Church (C of E) and Sandhurst Town Council which aims to equip and empower the young people of Sandhurst to realise their potential, aspirations, and hopes for life! We have over 3000 young people aged 11-21 in the town, and more than 45 registered at St Michael’s church.
You will be expected to spend about 2/3 of your time working both as a detached worker out and about in our parks and streets, and in our schools engaging with the young people in creative ways, and helping them realise their full potential in life. You will also spend about 1/3 of your time working with our church groups and volunteer team, enabling young people to commit to a full and fruitful life in Jesus. You will be sensitive to the natural tensions between work in the statutory and church sectors, and be able to work authentically in both domains.
The project has been running for the past 16 months and the experience gained gives us confidence in the long term need for the project. We now need a Youth Worker with the drive, organisation and personal commitment to take the project forwards.
The project was initiated by St Michael’s Church where we have been actively engaged in church Youth Work for over 10 years. As a church our passion is to Know God: Grow in faith: and Show his love in action. In your work in both domains you will be a visible example of the Christian faith in action, and this is a Genuine Occupational Requirement.
The partnership with Sandhurst Town Council is established, and now we need your initiative, drive and commitment to make it all happen! The project is fully funded, and the intention is that ‘Sandhurst Youth’ will become an independent charity by early 2019 – a venture you will help shape.
We are looking for someone of Professional Youth Worker grade, and are offering an initial salary of £23-26,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Although accommodation does not form part of the offer, there is a flat suitable for a single person (or newly married couple) available at low cost in the parish.
Download the full Application Pack below or contact the church office.
You can call Dave Percival (Project leader) for more information or an informal discussion about applying on 01344 779658.
Deadline for applications is Monday 8th January 2018. Start date ASAP!
