The Spire Project
Our beautiful church building needs repair. The six bells are currently away being repaired, the wooden tiles (shingles) on the spire are being replaced, and the clock needs refurbishment of the face, and major repair of the mechanism if it is to tell the time again. An update on the clock can be found on page 8 of the September 2025 newsletter. The total cost of the whole Spire Project is around £250,000, and only a small proportion of this has yet been received in grants. We are hoping that local people and business will be willing to make some significant donations to enable our Spire, bells and clock to be returned to their former glory. For more information, and how you can donate to this appeal, please visit our WinSpire 2024 page. See also the article on Page 8 of the April 2026 Newsletter.
Visiting the ChurchThe church is usually open for visiting and private prayer on weekdays and weekends (except during Sunday morning services), and you are welcome to light a candle as an act of prayer. This depends upon the availability of volunteers to open and lock it, but you can also phone or e-mail the office to arrange for the church to be open when you want to visit. (See contact page.)

The Greatest Gift
The following article by Rev John Castle appears on the front page of the April 2026 Newsletter.
What is the most valuable gift that anyone has ever given you? Or that you’ve given to someone else?
Part of the story of Holy Week is the incident at the meal in Bethany (Matthew 26:6-13), where a woman pours a very expensive perfume over Jesus’ head. Some of his disciples are shocked at this extravagance – couldn’t she have sold the perfume and given the money to the poor? But Jesus’ response shows how meaningful her gesture is to him. He knows that in a few days he will suffer a horrible death. This extravagant gesture of love has warmed his soul.
What the woman doesn’t know is that in a few days Jesus will give something even more precious for her – and for all of us: his life. Don’t let this Holy Week pass by without reflecting on that gift – the means for each of us to be put right with God, our sins forgiven and a relationship with God that starts now and continues into eternity.
Please take some time to reflect on this question: What would you give Jesus in return? And, of course, don’t forget to give to the poor as well – our Charity of the Month provides the means to make a huge difference to the lives of others.
