The Spire Project - September update NEW
Our beautiful church building needs repair. The six bells are currently away being repaired, the wooden tiles (shingles) on the spire are due to be replaced starting late September or early October, and the clock needs refurbishment of the face, and major repair of the mechanism if it is to tell the time again. An update on the clock can be found on page 8 of the September newsletter. The total cost of the whole Spire Project is around £250,000, and only a small proportion of this has yet been received in grants. We are hoping that local people and business will be willing to make some significant donations to enable our Spire, bells and clock to be returned to their former glory. For more information, and how you can donate to this appeal, please visit our WinSpire 2024 page. Visiting the ChurchThe church is usually open for visiting and private prayer on weekdays and weekends (except during Sunday morning services), and you are welcome to light a candle as an act of prayer. This depends upon the availability of volunteers to open and lock it, but you can also phone or e-mail the office to arrange for the church to be open when you want to visit. (See contact page.)

Living In The Present Moment
The following article by Rev Jane Kraft appears on the front page of the November Newsletter.
As we begin November, we are aware of the nights drawing in, the temperature dropping and the need for gloves, woolly hats and winter boots. The older ones amongst us may look back and reflect on the great snow during the winter of 1962/1963. I remember being at a New Year House party at Lee Abbey in Devon and being snowed in and having to miss the first week back at school. These snowy recollections might lead on to recalling the longest official heatwave in the UK in 1976.
We will all have personal memories of significant times or events which come to mind, often prompted by an unrelated word or event many weeks or years later. These incidents may be joyous or sad, and the recollection can stir up a whole variety of emotions. It is important to remember, because experiences in our past have contributed towards the people we are today. We also look forward to the future with hope and expectation, but what about what comes in between these two? A journey does not just have a beginning and an ending; there is the present, the here and now, when we are on our way. It may not always be a comfortable place to be, but it is where we are at this moment. And that is important to acknowledge because the past is gone and the future is yet to be, while the present moment is the ONLY moment in which we can actually do anything.
