The Spire Project - January update
Our beautiful church building needs repair. The six bells are currently away being repaired, the wooden tiles (shingles) on the spire are due to be replaced in the first few months of 2026 and the clock needs refurbishment of the face, and major repair of the mechanism if it is to tell the time again. An update on the clock can be found on page 8 of the September newsletter. The total cost of the whole Spire Project is around £250,000, and only a small proportion of this has yet been received in grants. We are hoping that local people and business will be willing to make some significant donations to enable our Spire, bells and clock to be returned to their former glory. For more information, and how you can donate to this appeal, please visit our WinSpire 2024 page. Visiting the ChurchThe church is usually open for visiting and private prayer on weekdays and weekends (except during Sunday morning services), and you are welcome to light a candle as an act of prayer. This depends upon the availability of volunteers to open and lock it, but you can also phone or e-mail the office to arrange for the church to be open when you want to visit. (See contact page.)

Bright Hope For Tomorrow . . . .
The following article by Rev John Castle appears on the front page of the January 2026 Newsletter.
As I look back over the past year and look forward to 2026, the words of the hymn Great is thy faithfulness give me cheer. It is good to look back and take stock of what has happened in our lives over the past year, to give thanks for achievements made, for help received in difficult times, and for lessons learned. As we were reminded at Christmas, God is with us – Emmanuel – he has been, whether or not we realised it, and he will be with us in the future.
It’s also good to set ourselves some goals for the future; but to do so prayerfully. Rather than “what do I want to achieve this year?” ask “what might God want to do with me, and how can I prepare myself for his service?”
Practical preparation could include paying more attention to our physical, emotional and spiritual health, which could mean, for example, drink less, give more, pray daily.
God will be with us – but will we make him the centre of our lives this year? The rewards will be enormous:
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
